Ft. Lupton Gas Turbines

In 1971, two gas turbines were built just north of Ft. Lupton, Colorado as part of a settlement between Public Service Company and General Atomics of San Diego.  These units are capable of about 50 megawatts of power each.  Because they are totally enclosed, it's difficult to really see much from the photo above.  The exhaust stack is in the taller area and the lower, gray portion is an evaporative cooler for the inlet air.

Since their construction, the maintenance of the site has been assigned to the staff of Valmont Station.  Many FSV folks where not even aware that this facility existed!  However, in January, 2000, Fort St. Vrain was assigned the primary responsibility for the site.
