Albert, Roger Alan  (12/30/1951 -- 11/17/2005)  Roger, a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, worked as a security guard during the nuclear days at FSV.  He also served on the police force in Greeley, Colorado.  Later he and his wife went into the restaurant business in Greeley, Colorado and established the ever popular Fat Alberts Restaurant.

Alexander, Donald R. (4/19/1934 -- 7/9/2006) Don was Health Physics Manager at FSV.  Don received his doctorate from CSU, he was an active Scout leader and active in local chapters of the Health Physics Society.  He retired in 1995 as Manager of Radiation and Environmental Safety at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory.  He was an active singer and performed on stage with his wife, Anne, in many musicals and operas.  Don was also a lay minister in the Unitarian church.

Allen, Edward F. III  "Ed Senior," as he was known, passed away on 4/28/2005; he was 70.  Ed was a contractor at FSV during the "EQ" years from 1985-1990.  He was a specialist in NED Materials Engineering and worked with parts expediting, specification and substitution.

Allomong, Eugene Calvin "Gene"  (1/3/1932 - 8/24/2014) Gene worked at FSV as an electrician and left in 1983.  He worked for PSCo from 1962 to 1987.  Gene was a Navy veteran and was buried at sea of the coast of Jacksonville, FL, along with eleven other shipmates from the USS Carney (DDG64) on Dec. 14, 2014. 

Alps, Donald Ray  (10/6/1942 - 9/13/2016) Don worked for PSCo as Lead Security Officer from 1977 to 1981 and then as Security Supervisor from 1981 till 1992. He was a Navy Veteran.

Aragon, Leonard J., 76, passed away Feb. 22, 2008.  He worked for PSCo from 1970 to 1996 as a senior technician at Diamond Hill and FSV in the NED division. 

Archibeque, Furgencio B. "Benji" (4/3/1950 - 3/26/2004) Benji worked for Ebasco, MKF and others as contract janitorial services.

Archuleta, Daniel John (4/26/1947 - 8/24/2021) Daniel worked for Burns Security from 1985-1992.  He was a Vietnam Vet. 

Bailiff, Keith  (2/20/1933 - 8/30/2001) Keith was an electrical foreman for the contract electricians (Sterns or Ebasco) during the very early 70's.  He was in charge of the terminating crew in the auxilery control room most of that time.  He was a Navy veteran and a member of IBEW Local 68 for 38 years.

Barnett, Kenneth * (c. 1931 - 11/2/2002) Ken worked for PSCo at FSV as the Supt. of Operations from 1968-1973.  When he retired from the company he was manager of operations at the Bellview Service Center--Metro Production.  He worked for PSCo from 1954 until 1986.  He was 71.  

Bass, Roy J. Jr.  (7/25/1929 - 2/5/2020) of cancer.  Roy worked at FSV in maintenance and as a fuel handler from 1970 - 1986.  He was a Korean War veteran.

Bates, George Dexter  (3/25/1935 - 8/18/2010) Dexter hired on with PSCo at the Alamosa Steam Generating Station in 1964. He transfered to Maintenance at the Cabin Creek in 1967 and then to FSV maintenance (attached to the Health Physics Dept.) in 1970. Prior to the reactor going critical in 1975 Dex went back into the Mechanical Maintenance Dept. He was again attached to the H.P. Dept. to do their mechanical maintenance. When FSV set up their Training Dept he became a Mechanical Maintenance Training Instructor/Fuel Handler. Dexter finished his long career for PSCo. at the Nuclear Fuel Storage Facility located North of the plant. When all the fuel was removed from the reactor and safely stored on site, he took early retirement in 1992.

Bates, William S.  (12/22/1939 - 2/1/2004) Bill worked as a Lead Security Officer at FSV from 1980 to 1990.  After serving in the Air Force, Bill moved to Fort Collins where he worked in local law enforcement.  He retired from FSV in 1990. 

Bennett, Michael  (3/17/1952 - 8/17/1990) Mike was a Lead Security Officer at the Fort from 1981-1990. 

Billings, George David *  (1/19/1933 - 8/4/2008)  Born "a farm boy" in Hannibal, Mo, George was one of the twenty orginal licensed reactor operators of Fort St. Vrain.  George worked at FSV from 1968 until 1981 when he became a shift supervisor at the Cherokee power station.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  George loved sports, expecially the Denver Broncos and loved his family.  He told family members to "...work hard, love your family, and have fun sometimes."  

Bishard, Levi Vernon  (12/28/1932 - 9/29/2002)  Levi worked for PSCo at FSV from 1970 to 1993.  He worked in Maintenance, as a Fuel Handler, and in Engineering.  He retired Dec, 93.  He served in the Navy.

Bliss, Ed-- worked as a mechanical engineer at the Holly Service Center and the FSV Field Office from 1971-73.

Boortz, Patsy--worked on special construction QA Projects at FSV for Ebasco Services off and on.  She was killed at Commache Peak in Texas during a large mobile crane accident in the late 1980's.

Brewer, Howard James -- (5/30/1921 - 1/5/2002) worked for PSCo from 1938-1983 and was the first Storekeeper at Fort St. Vrain.  

Brewer, Sally (Renfroe) (? - 5/5/2011) Worked as a FSV Visitor's Center host from 1985 to 1987.  After leaving FSV Sally became a professor at the University of Montana in Missoula teaching library, media and technology.  She also was coordinator for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.  She developed the Nuclear Industry Interest Patch for the Girl Scouts of America (equivalent to the Boy Scouts Atomic Energy Merit Badge).

Bronson, Paul  (3/12/1927 - 10/15/1994) Worked as a FSV Visitor's Center host.  He retired from PSCo as an Energy Management Specialist in 1986.  He was also a cherished Boy Scout leader for many years in Weld County (Greeley area).  

Brown, Sandy K. died on 5/31/2021.  Sandy worked for PSCo from 1983 to 1996 in NED at Diamond Hill and at FSV she also served at FSV in Record Storage and as a secretary.  

Bruxvoort, Marvin  ( d. 11/12/2018).  Marv was an electrician at FSV from 1978 until 1999 when he retired and was 81 when he passed away.  He worked for PSCo from 1960 until he left FSV. 

Burgess, Charles Robert "Bob" (1936 - 1/26/2023) Worked at FSV from 1979-90 in Maintenance, Results and Planning and Scheduling.  Bob was an Air Force veteran.

Burnett, Randall J.  (8/27/1933 - 9/12/2014)  Started work at FSV in the mid 1970s possibly in operations.  However, the vast majority of time spent at FSV was in maintenance as a machinist.  He worked in maintenance in FSV up until 1992.

Cagel, Oren  (8/26/1939 - 4/4/1988) worked at FSV as a contractor doing data entry for spare parts during the mid 80's. Oren was a US Navy veteran.

Carlson, Dan S.  (6/23/1947  - 8/21/2023) worked at FSV for MKF in engineering and for PSCo in NED.  Dan retired in 2003 but was seen occasionally contracting back to FSV for a few years after that.  Dan was a US Navy Vietnam Veteran.

Case, Bonnie Jean  (12/19/1932 - 5/13/2020) worked at FSV from 1989-1993 for On-Call as administrative assistant in I&C Maintenance and Scheduling and Planning.  In her spare time Bonnie taught piano, organ, accounting, and remedial children's classes.  She was avid about keeping up with current technology.

Caudil, Charlcive "Charly" (1918-7/19/2005)--Charly worked for PSCo and FSV mostly at 39th Ave Engineering and Montbello doing drawings, she was 87.

Chrisler, Terry E (11/15/1943 - 2/9/2004) worked at FSV from 1973 to 1981 in Water Chemistry, Health Physics, and as a SRO Licensed Training Instructor.  Terry helped load the first fuel into the reactor.

Cirbo, Raymond J.  (3/31/1927 - 3/2/2007) worked for Ebasco in 1969 or 70 in electrical maintenance.  Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran. 

Clark, Art  (6/13/1933 - 3/30/2016) worked at FSV for Sterns-Rogers as a laborer beginning in 1975, then coming in-house for PSCo as a classified mechanic, machinist and later working in the I&C maintenance M&TE calibration lab retiring in 1991.  Art served in the US Navy and was a retired Chief.

Craine, Ward  (9/17/1925 - 10/28/1995) worked for PSCo at FSV as maintenance manager until 1986.

Crawford, A. Clegg  (2/7/1932 - 10/27/2019) worked for Xcel Energy as VP of Nuclear Production from 1989 to 1992. He was also VP of electric operations in Colorado for a time as well.  Clegg was at least partially responsible for getting the nuclear FSV defueled and decommissioned on time and under budget.

Crespin, Joseph D.  (? - 5/16/2022)  Joe worked in the maintenance department from 1983 to 1993.

Daniel, Brent  (8/18/1955 - 12/01/2001) of small cell lung cancer.  Brent was a contractor during the decommissioning phase of FSV in the health physics dept.  

Davis, Jennifer A. (10/14/1958 - 12/13/2017) died as a result of complications from earlier cancer treatments. Jenny served in many ways and many departments at Fort St. Vrain from maintenance clerk to computers and database engineer and she widely know as a Microsoft Office and database wizard. She also assisted FSVFolks with the development and maintenance of the museum at the visitors center. 

Dender, William M. (3/10/1957 - 3/24/2019) Will worked in the Diamond Hill QA group contracting through RCG/Hagler Bailly from 1986 to 1991. He had moved back to Tennessee but was diagnosed with PSP, a rare version of Parkinsons and lost the battle in March 2019. 

Deniston, Martin (3/18/1943 - 3/25/2020)  Marty worked at FSV from 1970 to 1992 serving as a reactor operator, shift supervisor, operations manager, and finally operations and stores manager.  After FSV Marty worked at the CSU power plant until 2011 when he retired. 

Dice, Tom  (11/17/1943 - 6/2/2000) Tom passed away after a long battle with diabetes.  He worked for PSCo at FSV from 1970-1994 working in operations as a tender, equipment operator, turbine operator, reactor operator and shift supervisor.  Tom was a Vietnam veteran of the US Navy's nuclear program.

Dickerson, Robert A.  (? - 1/17/2004) Bobby worked in FSV maintenance and the training department from 1970-1992.

Dillen, Tandy O. (8/2/1950-1/10/2004) Tandy worked for PSCo at the fort from 1983 to 1990 in the QC and also scheduling and planning.  He was a licensed pilot.  He was residing in Baroda, Michigan at the time of his death.

Dorner, Charlie  worked for GA and spent most of his time in San Diego working on Data Acquistion System data from the plant.

Edwards, Donna McGruder (5/6/1929 - 1/9/2020) A native of Platteville, Donna worked in Nuclear Documents at FSV from 1972 to 1991 when she retired. She was a resident of Deming, NM at the time of her death.

Einig, Kenneth (November 8, 1949 - November 12, 2013) Ken worked at FSV from 1978 to 1990 in operations as an Auxilery Tender, Equipment Operator, and Reactor Operator.  He also worked in the training department as a SRO Instructor, Licensed and Non-Licensed Operator Training Supervisor. 

Elliott, William Lawrence * (8/9/1925 - 1/4/2018) Bill served at Fort St. Vrain from 1968 to 1978 and briefly in 1985-86.  He was a gifted leader and one of the original GA trained operators.  He also served in the south Pacific in the Navy.  Bill was the first person in Colorado to be accorded the title "Registered Professional Engineer" who did not have the benefit of a formal engineering college education. He later served as Construction Manager of three major plants in eastern Colorado, followed by Construction Superintendent at several power plants, including the innovative Geothermal plant at Winnemucca, NV and refueling/maintenance operations at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Generating station in California. 

Evans, Dennis Wayne  (12/8/1940-1/27/2001)  Dennis worked for PSCo at Fort St. Vrain from 1970 to 1991 in the operations department serving as reactor operator, shift supervisor and operations superintendent.  Dennis also served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963.

Evilsizor, Richard Henry  (6/1/1926-8/24/2001) Dick was the GA construction coordinator at FSV from 69-79 and then worked at FSV again from 1985-90.  He also worked for Convair, General Dynamics, Gulf Oil, Chevron and Energy International during his long career.  Dick served in the Navy in the Pacific during and after WWII.  He enjoyed coaching Little League and was an avid sport fan.

Fedie, Michael Lee  (10/9/1946-9/25/2000)  Mike worked as a technical procedure writer at Fort St. Vrain from 1973 until about 1995.  He was employed by General Atomics, Stolley and Westinghouse.  Before coming to FSV, Mike had received a B.S. from the University of Minnisota and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. 

Fetterolf, Dave L  (9/22/1946-12/22/2020)  Dave worked at FSV as a water chemist from 1982 to 1998.  Dave was a veteran of the US Air Force where he served as a medic.  Dave died of Covid-19.

Franek, William Joseph "Bill"   ( May 25, 1937 - 12/11/2021)  Bill (Mr. Sweet & Wonderful) worked at FSV from 1969-96.  He designed the program and procedures for initial fuel loading of the reactor.  He worked as a Results Engineer; Results Supervisor; Supt. of Operations; Superintendent of Planning, Scheduling and Stores, and Fuel Deck Supervisor during defueling and loading of ISFSI.  He retired from PSCo in 1996 but contracted back for several years.   Bill was a US Air Force veteran and a graduate of UC Boulder in Electrical Engineering. 

Franklin, Wilbur "Bill" *  (2/8/1919 - 4/13/2002)  Bill was one of the original 20 reactor operators who received training at the Gulf General Atomics facilities in La Jolla, California and at the Peach Bottom facility in PA.  Over the years Bill also served Fort St. Vrain as a shift supervisor and, later as a consultant.  Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy where he was a Chief Warrent Officer and he was a Mason.

Frost, Richard R. "Dick"--passed away 6/13/2008, he was 71.  Dick started at the FSV in 1971 as a GA Startup Engineer.  He was laid off in 1975 by GA and started with PSC in the Technical Services Department until 1981 when he left the company.  He remained in the nuclear business until 2000 when he retired from Raytheon E&C.  Dick served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the commissioning crew on the USS Enterprise. He was a graduate of St. Martin’s College in Olympia, WA.

Giegler, Don -- in March 2019.  He worked for GA in the design and construction of FSV.  He kept a lot of history of FSV and analytical studies of various plant systems and equipment.

Gilliland, Gerard D -- (1/13/1942 - 9/?/2023) Gerard worked at FSV as an I&C technician and in special projects from 1975-1984.

Gitterman, Morrie--(1925 - 11/16/2009) worked for General Atomics on the FSV project from 1969 to 1975.  He was the GA Design Manager of the Systems Engineering Branch and later was GA's site engineering manager.

Goebel, Steven Michael -- (2/1959 - 7/2019) Steve worked at FSV in Computer Services from 1982 thru 96 when he was riffed along with many others at the close of nuclear defueling activities. Steve stayed with IBM in Denver sometimes still supporting FSV until his retirement in 2014.  Steve was proud to be an Eagle Scout.

Graul, William A.  -- (11/15/1927 - 10/3/2017) Bill was GA's FSV Project Manager during the very early 1980s, retiring in 1983.  He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and volunteered for 30 years with the San Diego Sheriff's Office.

Graves, Joe--worked for General Atomics at FSV. 

Grossman, Seymore L. "Gus"--worked for General Atomics in licensing until '89.

Haake, Gene---passed away on 6/12/2005 at age 83.  He was head of system and transient analysis group at GA during the FSV NPP days.  

Haller, Lloyd  (2/7/1929 - 10/1984) worked for PSCo at Diamond Hill in NED.

Haloin, Donald E. Jr.  (8/6/1949 - 10/15/2012) worked at FSV from 1977 to 1986 in radio chemistry, water chemistry and computer services.

Hanson, Eric--worked for PSCo in operations at FSV from 81-91.  Eric died in October of 1992.

Hanson, Marion Joseph-- (c. 1931 - 1/16/2016) worked in maintenance as a welder, foreman and supervisor.  Marion worked for the company from 1961 to 1986.

Harding, Charles H. "Chuck" -- (10/8/1949 -- 8/19/2018)  Chuck worked for Xcel Energy at FSV from 2000 to October 15, 2014 when he retired.  He worked in operations as a plant specialist.  He also took voluntarily became the site confined space expert for several years, making sure we were all safe.   

Harding, Cliff -- deceased July 31, 2003.  Cliff worked for PSCo as Senior Storekeeper from  1972-1990. 

Harju, Thomas R. -- deceased March 14, 2012.  Tom worked for the company from 1988 to 2012.  At FSV he worked in the operations department from 1988 to 1993.  At the time of his death he was a utilityworker at the Gateway Service Center in Denver.

Hart, William Darrell -- (9/13/1937 - 6/30/2023) Darriel worked at FSV in the security department as a Lead Security Officer (LSO) from 1968 till decommissioning.  He was a US Navy retiree.

Hawkins, Bill M.--deceased Feb. 2002 at age 87.  Bill worked for General Atomics at FSV.  Bill and Dick Phelps developed and presented the cold license operator training program intended to help the first 20 PSC operators get their licenses to operate Fort St. Vrain.  He worked on startup and became the GA Site Manager before his tenure at FSV ended.

Helms, Duane * -- deceased July 2021.  Duane was one of the original 20 licensed reactor operators at Fort St. Vrain and later served as a consultant.  He was a Korean War veteran. [hopefully more info later]. 

Hiatt, Wayne (1937-1994) Wayne worked for GA at the prototype Experimental Beryllium Oxide Reactor in Idaho, a high temperature, beryllium moderated, helium cooled reactor concept that was in competition with the HTGR and FSV for a time.  He also worked for GA on testing of the FSV PCRV Mock-Up in Sorrento Valley and pressurization to failure.  Wayne worked at FSV as a Senior Operations Engineer during construction and plant start-up from ~ 1970 to 1977.   He was well liked because of his good nature and sense of humor.  He worked for Stearns-Rodgers as a Start-Up Engineer after leaving FSV and up to the time of his death due to lung cancer.  Wayne served in the Navy and served on the USS Enterprise (the world's first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier) during the Bay-of-Pigs Invasion in 1961.

Hill, Edwin Durham * (12/20/1932 -- 7/14/2021)  Ed worked at FSV from 1968-1983 as Results Engineer, Results Supervisor, Superintendent of Operations, and Operations Manager.  He was a Navy veteran.  After FSV he worked for MAC Consulting in the US, Yugoslavia, and Croatia before retiring to his long time home in Johnstown, CO. 

Holcomb, Joseph C. --deceased Jan. 13, 2012 at age 82.  Joe worked at FSV for PSCo in operations and as a maintenance clerk from 1974 to 1978.  He transferred to Arapaho and later to the MDC in Henderson, Colorado as material control analyst before retiring in 1994.  .

Holmes, David B. --deceased 2/21/2019. Dave worked at FSV in operations from 1973 to 1984 working his was up from auxilery tender to senior licensed reactor operator.  He was a fine operator and mentor for many.  He died of a snowmobile accident near Yakima, WA where he lived.

Hood, Donald P. * (10/11/1928 - 11/29/2018)  Don, was one of the original 20 licensed operators of FSV.  He worked at the plant from 1968 through 1989 in a variety of positions, most notably as operations shift supervisor.  Before FSV, Don worked at the Arapahoe steam electric station from 1953-1968.  Don and Mary Ellen Hood assisted greatly with items and information for the FSV Folks Museum located in the old FSV Visitors Center and information in general for FSVFolks websites.  Don was also a veteran of the US Army.

Hottinger, Ken--worked for PSCo from the late 40s or early 50s until 1971.  He was mechanical engineering supervisor at the Holly Service Center and was involved with construction of the helium circulator test facility at Valmont.

Huber, Joseph Roche--(9/16/1941-6/3/2013) worked for PSCo from 1985 to 1995 at Diamond Hill engineering as well as at FSV as an electrical engineer.  He was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.  Joe was one of only a handfull of ham radio (KE0SO) operators who worked at FSV.  Following retirement he was very active with the Douglas County Sheriff's office developing their firearms training program and the Highlands Ranch Law Enforement Training Center.

Jackson, Joseph K. "Joe Jack" (? - 6/4/2016) Joe worked at FSV in a lot of capacities.  He worked for Ebasco from 1971-77, then PSCo from 1979- 1989 in QA, and from 1995-2002 he worked for UE in project management during the combustion turbine installations of those years.

Jones, Steven P. (9/8/1951 - 3/1/2015) Steve worked at Fort St. Vrain from 1985 to 1991 in the nuclear engineering department, results engineering, systems enginnering and as preventative maintenance supervior.  After FSV he worked at steam heat in Denver until his retirement on 6/25/2010 as a senior engineer.  Steve was a US Navy veteran and a graduate of the University of Colorado.

Kanton, Vernon--( ? - 7/10/1991) Vernon was the general electrical foremen for Ebasco during the original construction of FSV.

Kendall, Wayne (12/16/1946 -11/28/2013) Wayne worked at Diamond Hill NED as a technician and later as an engineer at TSB in the system protection engineering department.

Kennedy, Jack (1/1/1930-10/28/2005) Jack served as the GA Safety and Licensing Engineer from the late 1970s through the 1980s.  He retired from GA in 1994.

Klaus, Don L. (1938 ~~ 4/30/2016) worked for PSCo in Nuclear Computer Services at FSV from 1981 till 1993.  Don took early retirement in December 1993 and did a lot of traveling. He was living in Mesa, AZ at the time of his death from COPD.  Don was also a devoted Shriner.

Koshio, Sam (1/23/1917 - 7/11/1993) worked for PSCo at FSV in the maintenance department and was the Fort's premier gardener and "resident philosopher".   After his death, Fort Lupton renamed their city park in his honor. [PHOTO]

Lambert, Duane--Duane began working for PSCo in 1949.  He served at FSV at various times on electrical issues.  He retired in 1986 from the Hayden station and was deceased June 16, 1998.

LeBlanc, Ina--on Feb. 11, 2003.  Ina was one of the pioneers at Fort St. Vrain.  She was one of the most influential people of her time in her role as clerical supervisor at the plant as well as Diamond Hill.

Lee, Oscar Jr.,  (3/29/1926 - 11/18/2015) was PSCo Vice-President of Production during the inception of Fort St. Vrain and remained a significant force for FSV until about 1985.  Mr. Lee was a Navy veteran and held a degree in mechanical engineering.

Liebelt, Jim--was electrical supervisor at FSV until 1983.  He passed away in Feb. 1994.

Lindsey-Chesnutt, Brenda Kaye--was Senior Dosimetry clerk for SEG during decommissioning.  She married our long time friend and worker, Sam Chesnutt, in Mar. 1996 and passed away in Mar. 1998.

Luna, Sal--passed away on May 10, 1999.  He worked for GA as a Control & Electrical Engineer.   Sal was also known as "Captain FlameMastic" for his work on cable separation during the hectic years from 1975 to 1979.

Magnuson, Gary E. 5/12/1946 - 9/29/2018.  Gary worked at FSV in the QA department.  He left FSV when the nuclear days came to a close in 1989 and served the company as a metalurgist for many years.  He was a US Navy veteran.

Major, John A.--worked for PSCo in maintenance at FSV from 88-90 and was deceased in 1993.

Mangan, Dan -- died Sept 2022 at age 86.  Dan worked as a Licensing Engineer at Diamond Hill in the 1990's and had 
previously worked at GA in Torrey Pines.  In his career he worked at a number of nuclear facilities as a physicist, engineer,
consultant and nuclear safety analyst.

Mathie, Frank *  9/19/1929 - 10/17/2023 Frank was one of the original 20 licensed operators of Fort St. Vrain. Among other tasks he was the first maintenance manager of the plant.  He was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Mayer, Erving "Erv" L. --worked for Gulf General Atomics and was a principal design engineer for the helium circulators.  He later contracted through Butler Services and finally joined Public Service Company working in the nuclear engineering department at FSV.

McCoy, Don -- passed away 12/22/2016. Don worked as an I&C Technician at FSV in 1987-89 and later for Performance Engineering in Denver doing radiolocation of system problems. Don was one of a very few amateur radio operators who have worked at the plant. He was also a veteran.

McCue, Dale Elwood -- (9/6/1931 - 5/4/2021)  Dale worked at FSV for GA and PSCo from 1970 to 1983 and 1985 to 1992 as a startup engineer, QC, engineering, technical services, and system engineering.  Dale also served in the US Army during the Korean War.   

McKinley, Sharyl L. (Schell) 10/9/1954 - 5/19/2014.  Sharyl worked in the maintenance department at FSV for Sterns & Rogers and Public Service.  After leaving FSV she worked at Coors BioTech and Coors in Golden, CO.  Later she owned her own construction company.

McKitrick, Laurie (Banagas) 9/7/1960 - 11/8/2013.  Laurie worked at FSV from 1981 to 1985 as a Record Storage Clerk and then a Technical Services Technician.   After leaving Public Service Company she worked for IBM supporting PSCo and Xcel Energy computer programs until her death.  Laurie passed away following a long and corageous battle with brain cancer.

McMahan, Peggy--was host and supervisor of the Visitors Center at FSV from 1970-1985.

Medbery, Gerald D. "Jerry" (1/14/1940 - 9/11/2014) Jerry worked at Fort St. Vrain from 1979-1992 as a classified mechanic and from 1998-2002 in the operation department.  During his career with the company Jerry also worked at the Valmont and Pawnee stations.  He was nicknamed "Shucky" because he'd never swear but said "Shucky Darn" instead.

Meier, Edward J.--passed away April 1998.  Ed was a working foreman and part of the original maintenance staffing of FSV.  He was also affectionately known as the head burrito maker and chief chili master.  He worked at FSV from 1970 to 1986.

Michaud, Paul W. (9/15/1955 - 4/1/2009)  Paul was one of the last NRC resident inspectors assigned to FSV.

Miller, Donald David  (9/12/1929 - 8/1/2011)  Don was a supervisor in the radiochemistry department.  He always had a smile and a great story.  He started at FSV in 1979 and retired on 12/31/1992.   Don served in the US Air Force for over 27 years, retiring in 1979 prior to starting work at FSV. 

Miller, Sandra Kay  (2/17/1947 - 5/14/2002)  Sandy worked at FSV for GA and Ebasco as a secretary in QA and QC during the years 1969-1972.  At the time of her death, Sandy lived in Ft. Collins.

Miles, Mike--d. 5/7/2002.  Mike worked for SEG at FSV in Rad Protection/Health Physics during most of defueling and decommissioning.  He is probably best known for his expertise and work ethic.  He was working at the Duratek facilities in
Oak Ridge, TN at the time of his death.

Moore, Paul F. -- (8/18/1946  --  4/27/2020)  Paul worked at Fort St. Vrain from 1971 to 1992 as a tender, equipment operator, and reactor operator in the operations department and then served in QA for the remainer of his career there.  Paul was also a Navy veteran and served on the USS Enterprise.

Neb, Ron H--d. 9/22/2006.  Ron worked at FSV in construction for Sterns.

Nelson, Don M. -- (8/7/1929 - 7/4/2016)  Don was already working for PSCo when he transfered to FSV in 1970.  Retiring in   1986, he was a senior instrument technician and lead tech in the Results shop. He was also the principal tech on the plant PPS system. He designed and built the module test rack for the PPS modules. 

Netzel, Len --d. 4/17/2022.  Len was GA's site manager for the I&C Group beginning in 1967.  He worked on various engineering projects at FSV until about 1975.   Len told FSVFolks in an email that, "We endured all that the nay-sayers 'promoted' and we still built a world class nuclear power plant - as we 'stressed' - a Swiss watch built with pipe wrenches!"

Newport, Paul --d. 4/9/2006.  Paul was the second PSCo storekeeper to work at FSV (according to the late Cliff Harding).  Paul was retired from the Seventh Avenue Service Center in Denver.  He worked for PSCo from 1953 to 1986.  Paul was survived by his wife Andrea, son Roger, daughter Becky, 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous other family members. 

Nielsen, Edgar R  (1/18/1930 -  5/2/2012)  was a QA coordinator.  Ed worked for PSCo from 1963 to 1986.

Nirschl, Richard J. "Dick" (11/12/1929 -  3/25/2014)  Dick worked at FSV from the beginning from 1965 as an engineer at General Atomics working on reactor core design and startup testing to 1990 with Public Service Company as Reactor Engineer and Core Physicist.  Dick offered guidance to many of the company engineers over the year.  He was definately one of the founding fathers of Fort St. Vrain.  He was also an Korean War veteran.

Oliver, Jack *  (6/15/1928 - 3/9/1992)  PSCo shift supervisor for many years.  Jack was a US Army veteran.

Olson, Charles "Chuck" G. (4/26/1943 - 10/9/2005)  Chuck worked at FSV in the PSCo I&C Maintenance or "Results" department from 1971 thru 1981 when he transferred to Valmont Station.  He retired in July of 2002.  Chuck was an extremely talented technician who was probably best know by his zanny antics.  He could find amusement in the most dismal situation and always brought that fun to the attention of everyone around.  He got us through some hard times.  He was a U.S. Navy veteran and loved fly fishing and wood working.

Olson, Dr. Hilding Gunnar ("Ollie") (5/4/1922 - 11/24/2005)  Dr. Olson was a WWII veteran who served as a US Navy engineering officer and pilot.  He served at Fort St. Vrain as a consultant to the nuclear training and engineering departments.  He was also a consultant and license examiner for the US Nuclear Regulatory Comission.  He retired in 1994 and was living in San Angelo, Texas at the time of his death.

Owen, Jon E.  (10/4/1935 - 12/17/1998)  Jon began working at FSV in 1972 in the maintenance department.  He was a welder for a long time and was a maintenance supervisor at the time of his retirement on Nov. 11, 1990.

Peat, Don passed away on 1/18/2013 of cancer.  Don was a very early GA staff member, starting in 1957, working on GA’s earliest TRIGA reactor instrumentation and various other electronic systems. Don was instrumental in FSV’s original rad monitoring and plant protection system designs. The rad monitor set up displayed in the FSV Visitor Center was a voluntary equipment restoration project completed by Don. Although he retired in 1985, Don continued to support GA and its affiliates for over 50 years.

Peña, James John "Paco"  (4/7/1949 - 5/4/2020)  Jim "Paco" worked at FSV from 1982 to 1995 and also in 1999 in the maintenance department.  At the time of his death Jim was living in Los Barriles BCS Mexico.  He said, "When I die I will have already seen heaven!"  That's how much he enjoyed living by the Sea of Cortez.  

Pettinger, Albert  (9/24/1920 - 3/27/1998)  PSCo maintenance and Results valve shop.

Poet, Stewart Ellis (Mar. 1932 - Mar. 2022)  Worked  for PSCo & SEG from 1982 to 1994 in Training and Radio Chemistry.

Ponce, Sue M. (Katcher) (6/27/1952 - 2/13/2012)  We knew her as Sue Katcher when she worked at FSV in Nuclear Documents.  She left FSV in 1987 to work at the North Colorado Medical Center. 

Powers, Gary--(3/16/1944 - 1/16/2007) worked for PSCo in maintenance scheduling 1975-1985.  Gary was born in Brainerd, Minnesota. He was an Air Force veteran, and spent most of his career in the construction industry.

Przybyski, Marty L.--(5/21/1963 - 3/18/2007) worked at FSV for PSC & MKF from 1985-92 in operations, training, and in safety.

Przybyski, Mike R. -- passed away on March 9, 2008 from cancer.  Mike contracted to FSV doing HVAC work.  Mike and Marty were brothers.

Pursley, Jim--(died Feb. 1990) was a PSCo I&C Technician at FSV.  

Rausch, Will--(1953 - 6/9/2006) worked for NED Materials Engineering through Manpower Services during the first part of decommissioning assisting with spare parts and data entry for the fuel handling machine.

Ray, Ralph  (3/7/1934 - 2/12/1999)  Ralph was also known as "5x5" due to his rather rotund statue.  He worked as a security guard and was known for his great sense of humor and incredibly loud laughter!

Reader, Jim  (4/6/1936 - 5/1976)  was a site electrical engineer for PSCo. 1970-1975.

Reed, Jim-- (d. 1985) Supt. of Construction for Sterns in the early 70's.

Reesy, John Robert -- (1929 - 4/8/2015)  Jack, as he was known, worked for the company for 37 years beginning with Cheyenne Light and Power before moving to Denver and to NED in support of FSV.  Jack retired to Green Valley, AZ in 1994 where he was elected to Arizona Electric Power Cooperative, Inc board of directors in 1999, becoming president in 2005.  He retired again in 2008 receiving the Distinguished Service Award from AEPCO in 2009.  Jack passed away from cancer in Green Valley, AZ in 2015.  He was a WWII and Korean War veteran. 

Reiss, Richard "Rick" Earl, Jr -- (11/24/1953 - 10/28/2020)  Rick worked at FSV from 11/1977 till 5/1982 as a Health Physics Technician and then a Quality Assurance Engineer.  He held a degree in Nuclear Physics. After FSV Rick was employeed by the Nevada Test Site.

Richards, Duane (11/29/1949 - 6/26/2023) Duane worked at FSV in the PSCo Construction Dept off and on from January 1969 to December 2006 when he retired from PSCo.  He assisted in the initial fuel loading into the reactor.

Rodell, John W. Jr.--worked at FSV for Ebasco and was deceased Mar. 24, 1992.

Root, Randall "Randy" James, (c. 1954  -  1/?/2017)  Randy worked at Fort St. Vrain from 1976 to 1980 in maintenance and in scheduling and planning. He held a BS in manufacturing and industrial technology from from CSU. After FSV he worked at Rocky Flats and for Northrup Grumman. 

Rosenberg, Richard "Dick" (11/22/1926  -  8/26/2017)  Dick worked at General Atomics for 25 years and was president of the ASME from 1987–1988.  In April, 2015 Dick was inducted in the University of Tennessee’s Hall of Fame inaugural class for Mechanical Engineering. 

Russell, Lynda "Lyn" Rae (11/7/1937  -  2/27/2013)  Lyn worked at FSV for Sterns Rogers, Butler Services and for PSCo from 1974 to 1992 in Nuclear Engineering and in Record Storage.  Lyn had battled with cancer for many years.

Schleiger, Timothy E.  (3/4/41 - 3/8/2005)  Tim worked at Fort St. Vrain from 1970 through 1996.  During that time he held
many jobs at the plant including maintenance helper, health physics technician, health physicist, health physics supervisor, 
and Superintendant of H.P and Chemistry.  Tim was very proud to have served in the US Navy.  He fought a gallant fight against cancer for many years and was an inspiration to others.  

Schlieker, James  (~1943 - 1/16/2024) Jim worked at FSV as a contract electrician for many years.  He also worked at DIA, Rocky Flats and even LAX.

Scott, Lowell D. "Dee"  (~1950 - 3/14/2009)  Worked at FSV from 1972-1979 and 1983-1990.  He worked for GA as Project Engineer for fuel and material irradiation testing of FSV fuel and material experiments in the GE Test Reactor in Northern California, and Engineering Test Reactor at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory in Idaho and experiments in HIFR @ Oak Ridge, TN. GA Senior Operations Engineer during nuclear construction @ start-up of FSV, GA FSV Construction/Operations Supervisor...left FSV in 1979.   In 1983 Dee came back to work for PSCo as QA Engineer, PSCo Fossil QA Supervisor, and QA Services Manager @ FSV until nuclear plant shutdown.  at the time of his death he was working for the DOE on Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, New Mexico.   Dee said that, "The FSV experience was one  of the best jobs in my entire career and definitely the best people you could work with!"

Shipman, Donna--a draftperson at the 39th St. office, she helped the engineers by preparing drawings for many of the modifications at the plant. She always wore a smile and wasn't hesitant about coming to the site.

Simon, Walter A.  (01/11/1937 - 08/24/2004) Walt was a nuclear engineer who made notable and innovative contributions to the nuclear power industry, died at the age of 67. Born in Koblenz, Germany, he completed his training in 1961 at the
Technical University in Aachen, Germany, and began his career with General Atomics later that year in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1964, he moved his family to La Jolla after accepting a position in San Diego, where he remained for the next 40 years. He was the recipient of the 2004 American Nuclear Society Sidney Langer Leadership Award, the 2003 Walter H. Zinn Award, and the Pinkerton Prize for 2000, among many others.  He finally retired from General Atomics as Senior Vice President, after 43 years of service. Mr. Simon was survived by his wife Hermine; daughter Yvonne; and son Michael of San Diego; and his sister Annelore and brother Joseph in Germany. 

Simonson, Kirk E.  (4/16/1959 - 5/1986) Kirk was a PSCo Results engineer from 1982-84.

Singleton, Leroy * ( 1/03/1926 - 10/13/2015) Lee started with PSCo at Arapaho Station as a tender in 1955.  He worked his way up to shifter and joined the FSV nuclear program in 1966.  He became one of the original 20 licensed nuclear operators at FSV that trained the rest of us.  Most of his time at FSV was spent as a shift supervisor and as manager of QA.  I believe he was last seen at FSV as a technical advisor during decommissioning in 1992. He and his wife, Avis, were in the process of moving from Arizona back to Colorado at the time of his death.  Lee was also an Army-Aircorps WWII veteran.

Slectha, Kay C.  (d. 7/2/2016) was a contract helper in the I&C Maintenance department during the very busy 80s and 90s working in the measuring & test equipment lab.

Smith, Gary I.  (12/13/1937 - 7/6/2014) worked for Burns as a security guard from about 1988 till 1992.  He resided in Evans, Colorado at the time of his death.

Starner, Harold (3/6/1929 - 3/10/2014)  worked for Public Service Company of Colorado beginning in 1954 and at Fort St. Vrain from 1969 to 1987.  Among other administrative positions, he was the Supvisor of Nuclear Site Construction.

Stewart, Dale L. (5/13/1954 - 1/22/2007)  was a contractor (Trycon Services) at FSV from 1986-90 in project management and planning.  Dale served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for 30 years, retiring in 2002 as a Chief Warrent Officer (CWO4).   Dale was the president of his own consulting firm with as many as forty-two employees working with the nuclear D.O.E. There are many project management professionals (PMPs) who were trained in project management through Dale’s tutelage at Colorado University Denver and Colorado State University Ft. Collins.  

Stoecklein, Martin, Jr. (12/1/1945 - 3/17/2020)  Marty work at FSV in maintenance from 1974 to 1995 as a classified mechanic and maintenance supervisor.  He served in the US Navy and was a Vietnam veteran.  After FSV he owned bars in Loveland and Eufaula, OK, before retiring in Grand Junction, CO.

Street, Kathy--worked for PSCo licensing until 1990.  Deceased in June 1993.

Swan, Jesse  (10/28/1951 - 10/1979)  was PSCo storekeeper in early 70's.

Swart, Fred *  ( ? - 9/30/2019) Fred worked at 39th Ave PSC engineering, site engineering and was FSV's first plant manager as well as being one of the 20 original licensed operators of FSV. Fred had a very long struggle with Alzheimer's.

Tarrant, Brian  (2/27/1935 - 1/21/2021)  Brian was a veteran of the Royal Air Force in England.  He worked at FSV for General Atomics, Ebasco and for PSCo from 1968 to 1995.  He worked in site construction, as a GA start-up engineer, as well as for PSCo in the nuclear engineering department.  Brian retired on Dec. 31, 1995.  His wife, Joy, passed in 1996.  After FSV, Brian lived in Wyoming and Arizona where he often volunteered teaching swimming to youth.  Finally he lived in Kentucky near his daughter Lynn. 

Teal, Dick--worked at FSV for General Atomics as the assistant to the project manager.

Tixier, Phil "To-Shay"--worked for PSCo maintenance and QC was deceased in 1991.

Tramp, Paul  (11/30/1945 - 5/1983)  was PSCo water chemist, maintenance QC and technical services technician.

Tregoning, Amy (Burnett)  (1952 - 8/21/23)  worked for Stanley Smith Security at the plant and was the wife of Bill Tregoning.

Tregoning, William Earl "Bill"  (4/10/1950 - 12/25/2010)  a certified nuclear welder at FSV from 1977 to 2006.  In 2007 Bill went on LTD due to declined health.  Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman.  As a child, he even thought he could catch fish in mud puddles left after a rain storm.

Trojillo, Jose (Joe)-- passed away in May 2002.  Joe worked at FSV during defueling and decommissioning for SEG.  He is remembered for his humor and cheery personality. 

Trujillo, Joseph J. "Joe" (5/22/1937 -- 10/15/2012) Joe worked for Ebasco and MKF at FSV from 1986 to 1992 when he retired.  He was a laborer in construction maintenance. 

Tumbleson, Vaughn  (11/5/1949 - 8/4/1984)  was killed in a traffic accident.  He was buried in Holyoke, Colorado.  Vaughn had a photographic memory and was a remarkably talented technician who could run extremely complicated tests from memory.  He worked in instrumentation and controls (Results Dept) during the 1970's.

Turner, Richard F. (12/15/31 - 9/6/2017) Richard worked on the development of the HTGR technology for GA for 36 years. He patented the fuel design for both Peach Bottom and Fort St. Vrain. He also served as the US representative for development of HTGR technology in Europe.

Valdez, Joseph P. "Tuna" (10/3/1940 - 1/22/2004) worked for Ebasco, MKF and others at FSV for maintenance, construction, housekeeping, and decommissioning.  Joe, Conce Gonzales and Benji Archibeque were familiar as janitors around the plant for many years.  Joe retired in 1994.  He was the son of Porfirio Valdez.

Valdez, Porfirio  (3/17/1912 - 1/29/1969) worked in the original construction of FSV for Ebasco, 1967-1969, he was was killed in an accident at the plant in during construction near the steam turbine hydraulic skid.  He remains the only person who has ever lost their life at FSV.  He was the father of Joe Valdez who also worked at FSV.

Valentine, Grant D--(10/26/1954 - 7/23/2013)  Worked for PSC from 1987-1992 in health physics and training.  Grant was a Navy veteran serving on the USS Will Rogers as chief electrical engineer for 10 years.  After FSV Grant also worked at the Savannah River Site, Riverbend Station, Sandia National Labs, Rocky Flats and Los Alamos.

Van Dyke, Jerome Gerald * (4/18/1925--2/14/2004)  "Van" worked for the company beginning in 1949 and at FSV from 1968 to 1986.  He was one of the original GA trained licensed reactor operators at the plant and served as a shift supervisor there. Van also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Pacific and European theater.

Van Westenberg, Edward R.  (8/3/1932 -- 7/12/2014)  Ed worked at FSV from 1970 to 1981 where he was an electrical foreman.  After leaving FSV, he went on to serve for 35 years with the company before retiring in 1993 as executive foreman of substations.  Ed served in the Korean War in the Army and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Vavrina, Jim   (7/13/1935 -- 1/28/2014) Worked for GA and PSC from 1972-92 initially as an instrument and electrical engineer working for General Atomic initially responsible for PCRV concrete curing instruments when PCRV, bottom and top heads were poured and continued thru 1987. Later Jim worked for PSC in NED in the Diamond Hill offices.  He served his country and community in many ways including as a Marine, a Nuclear Physicist and a long time member of the San Diego Mountain Rescue Team.

Waage, John McCulloch  (6/6/1933 -- 12/31/2019) John worked for GA at FSV as Project Manager from 1969-1979 and then he work in NED as a contractor with Stoller from 1982-1991.  

Wadas, Ray *  (10/2/1934-7/17/2001)  While Ray was working at FSV in operations, training and QA, he helped found the Little League in Johnstown and was a coach for 14 years.  He served on the town board and was mayor from 1989-93.  He helped found St. John the Baptist Church and he owned a restaurant, hardware store and a car wash!  Rays career with Public Service Company spanned over 4 decades from 1956-1989.  Click here to read about Ray's battle with cancer.  

Walker, Richard J. "Dick" -- (02/15/1924 - 12/3/2021)  Dick was instrumental in the decision to build Fort St. Vrain and was Vice President of Engineering during the time the plant was being built.  He also became president, CEO and a chairman of the board of Public Service company during his 40 years of service, retiring in 1989.  Dick continued his support of FSV thoughout his career.  He was a graduate of the University of Colorado and a WW2 veteran.

Warembourg, Donald W.  -- (10/13/1937 - 1/21/2022)  Don worked for PSCo at FSV from 1965 to 1995 as the first Resident Engineer, Manager of QA, Manager of Nuclear Production, Manager of Nuclear Engineering, and Decommissioning Manager.  He retired from PSCo on Dec  31, 1995.

Webb, Ronald Warren -- (09/25/1932 - 11/25/2018)  Ron was a maintenance supervisor at FSV.  He work for PSC from 1958-1990.  Ron was living in Morehead City, NC at the time of his death from cancer.

Wetzbarger, Virgil Raymond * -- (2/25/1930 - 2/29/1992)  A cherished PSC shift supervisor at FSV from 1968 thru 1981.  

Widows, Richard "Rich"  (12/28/1932 - 7/28/2012)  Rich started out at FSV working for security in 1980.  He was hired by Public Service and moved into the maintenance department at FSV in 1983, and to stores in 1984.  In 1990 during the "downsizing" after the nuclear days, he transfered to the stores department at the Commanche plant in Pueblo, Colorado.  In 1999 Rich transferred back to FSV and worked in the stores or "materials management" department until his retirement in 2003.

William, R. O. Jr.--PSC senior vice-president of nuclear operations 86-89.

Wiltscheck, Gary J. "Harley" (6/30/1946 - 1/24/2024) -- Worked at FSV from 1975 to 1979 as a results engineer.  Gary once said, "My short career at the fort with the challenges and friendships gained has never been matched by any other group since!" He was a US Army & Vietnam veteran.

Wolfe, Rolland M. "Rolly" (5/31/1948 - 4/30/1995) -- was a contract data entry clerk for the I&C Maintenance department and NED Materials Engrg dept. 1988-90. 

Wong, Arthur H. -- worked at FSV for Proto Power and later PSCo.  Art worked in Licensing, NED and Supervised Nuclear Regulatory Affairs.

Wyatt, Ronald Wayne--(4/24/1952 - 5/10/2011) Ron worked in Maintenance QA for a few years beginning in 1982.  He had a degree from the University of Northern Colorado and was known as an avid outdoorsman.

Yampolsky, Jack--deceased July 3, 2001.  Jack was GA's technical director for the development of turbo-machinery during the design and development for the Fort St. Vrain HTGR.  He was often cited as the "Father of the FSV Helium Circulators".  After he retired from GA, he was a docent at UCSD where he advised researchers, graduate students and others involved in fluid mechanics and heat transfer work.  He was a regular at the monthly GA Friendly Old Fellows luncheons and will be sorely missed.
